Amid a moonshine hunt and courtship intrigue, Ardmore grapples with political peril, Appleweight indictments, and threats while the governor’s daughter pressures urgency and caution.
In a tense scene at the governor’s office Miss Geraldine Dangerfield confronts Mr. Ardmore. He pleads for mercy and recalls threats aimed at his father while she reveals she has drafted a response and plans to return it to Kildare amid talk of jail or hanging for the Appleweigit gang.
