There’s Room At The Top For Trades, Not Just College
In Our Opinion the country overemphasizes college material and neglects trades. Too few tool and die makers, machinists, and cabinet makers are produced. Strike costs and morale in labor battles reveal limits
Paul Harvey argues that strikes lose value as a coercive tool as fewer workdays are lost yearly and costs mount for both workers and employers. He notes 1946 to 1956 averages, 1949, 1963 and 1964 figures, and cites GM losses and nationwide economic impact. He warns union leadership must balance militant aims with real costs and stresses responsible representation at the bargaining table.
