Harrisburg officials debated how to implement a new law aimed at reforming distressed school districts. Dr Charles H Boehm sought a Justice Department ruling on who enforces the act, with DP I and auditors discussed as possible operators. Stevens says Barbara Finch told him days before her death that her surgeon husband had died to kill her and she feared for her life. Dr R Bernard Finch 42 a suburban physician and Carole Tregoff 24 his mistress are accused of murdering Finch’s wife last July 18 outside the West Covina home. The prosecution says the defendants aimed to marry without sharing the Finch estate with the tennis socialite. Boyd G Jones’ bronchitis also caused the pause. Stevens volunteered to testify and said he has known the Finches about four years. He is a member of the Los Angeles Tennis Club.
The local Y led YMCA Sunday activities in partnership with area churches to mark National YMCA Week. Gerald Lane, general secretary, cited a long church alliance and YMCA aims to unite people of all races and creeds through Christian teaching. Churches involved include First Methodist, First Presbyterian, St Pauls Lutheran, Emmanuel Episcopal, Salvation Army, and Columbus Community.
