State budget of 148 million urged by chamber group
Leonard P. Fox of the state chamber of commerce urged a 148 million general expenditures budget at the Pennsylvania Newspaper Publishers Association convention in Harrisburg. He said the proposal saves about 10.1 million from the governor’s general fund estimate and 44 million less than the current operating budget. Fox favored centralizing smaller agencies and tax collection to cut costs, opposed a state income tax and continuation of the emergency sales tax, and recommended centralizing road and fiscal duties. The meeting included officer elections, resolutions, and plans for a 1934 convention site.
