Washington January 13 Brig Gen William H Graham testified he bought cotton but no wheat after President Truman criticized commodity market gamblers The President's physician told the Senate Appropriations Committee that he made a profit of 6165 25 trading commodities he said he lost 11012 86 buying socks so he had a net cost of 4647 81 of lis trading all kinds Graham defended his past statements saying he did not criticize cotton buying and that speculative trading is legal but Truman called it gambling Graham said he sold 100 shares of July options in December and that he assumed full responsibility for the trading actions while noting he did not know all holdings
In 1947 the Liquor Board revoked 84 licenses, with 29 by clubs, hotels and restaurants each receiving suspensions. four percent by wholesale licensees and three by other outlets. During the year, 223 licenses were sold by clubs, 83 by hotels, 85 by estates and 38 by wholesale licensees, with suspensions averaging 30 days. The board announced fines for violations and noted total licenses revoked and suspended for the year.

Firemen from Columbus and nearby districts prevented total loss though the house and finishings sustained extensive damage. The alarm was turned in before phone service near the home was available. The Hockenburys returned to discover part of the blaze already checked by responders.
City officials announce a planned Christmas tree collection drive starting tomorrow. Bart Brith, head of the department, says the program will run daily for the next two weeks with locations at Meade Park and other wards to accept discarded trees.
