Roosevelt records haunt White House political machinery
In Washington on January 13 reports say White House failures to brief Congressional leaders on plans for a night address and missteps in personnel have marred Roosevelt's political record. Garner and Byrnes learned of it from radio firms and lambaste the secrecy, while Glass’s delay on the works relief bill highlights tensions. Frances Perkins joins the Cabinet as women gain prominence. Minnesota Editor Walter Liggett’s death sparks political uproar, with calls for Olson to arrest the killer and criticism of Farm-Labor enforcement.
