Area Dems Paid By State Uneasy (Continued from Page One)
In Corry there are 44 state workers, including members of the State Police stationed at the Corry substation. These men are not affected by the change of state administration except at the very top. Union City has 31 state em ployes living there. In Spartans burg, which lies in Crawford County, one resident works for the state in Erie County. The state payroll in the coun ty, which soars over the $4 mil lon mark annually, outstrips that of the largest industry in the city of Corry. The bulk of the jobs fall into the $4,000 to $5,000 a year bracket, with a dozens or so above the $10,000 mark with a Jone $16,500 position at the top of the state scale. Many of those paid by the state are in clerical positions which pay from $1,500 a year to almost $3,000. A few are listed at which must surely be some kind of honorar ium, at $90 or even less. If the pattern of political pa tronage holds true, the eastern end of the county where Scran ton's main support came from during the last election will see an increase in patronage jobs. Meanwhile, Democratic ranks on the Pennsylvania payroll ac count are due to thin out con siderably. And perhaps even some Re publicans, at Kolweal, which provide 75 per cent of the Congo power supply. Informants said Tshombe also had wanted the central govern ment to grant full pardons to his Cabinet ministers and officials in the secessionist Katanga regime and to grant amnesties to his army and police.
