Five Days In Jail Small Price To Pay
SAN FRANCISCO AP Sheriff Richard Hongisto will appeal a five day jail sentence for contempt of court but calls it a small price to pay for refusing to evict tenants of the International Hotel. Judge Benson sentenced Hongisto and Undersheriff Denman to five days and $500 fines, to serve at San Mateo jail on Jan 21. The case centers on evictions demanded by Four Seas Corp. of Bangkok to clear land near Chinatown and North Beach, with tenants facing $50 rooms and demonstrations by the International Hotel Tenants Association ongoing.

Evacuation as Fire Rips Through NY Mill Town Plant
In Philmont New York about 1300 residents were evacuated as an overnight blaze from a rubber factory spread quickly aided by near blizzard conditions. No serious injuries were reported though the mill building and several nearby structures were gutted or damaged. About 200 firefighters from 20 units battled the flames for six hours through ice and snow with roads iced over delaying response. The four story brick factory building remained smoldering early today in the hilly town near Albany close to the Massachusetts and Connecticut borders.
