Florida Frigid Weather Disrupts Markets and Harvests
Heavy cold disrupted Florida markets with record fuel and gas demands and vegetable price spikes. Pompano Farmers Market buyers bid higher for beans and peppers while tomatoes topped 12 dollars a bushel in New York. Migrant workers in Dade County were deemed sufficient as harvest slowed. Snow fell in Knoxville and a storm off New Jersey swirled cold air southward, freezing readings held from the Southeast to the Plains with widespread freezing temperatures and mixed precipitation inland.
