Japan accepts U S approval of consular attack settlement
Secretary of State Stimson announced Washington has accepted Japan's compensation program for the attack on American Consul Chamberlain. The plan provides dismissal of the interpreter, court martial for him, punishment for two police, disciplinary action for Mukden's Major General Ninomiya and aides, and an apology from the Harbin consul general. Stimson said the episode would be closed when the program is carried out. An additional apology had already been expressed by Japan's ambassador Debuchi.
