Army major dies in grade crossing train crash near Union City
Major Lawrence W. Fagg U S Army officer presided at Company A inspection at the State Armory in Union City last evening. He died when his car was struck by Erie train No 7 at a grade crossing about a mile west of Union City while en route to Meadville to inspect Company B. The Essex sedan was hurled over an embankment and Fagg, found with a crushed skull, was killed instantly. Deputy Coroner Arthur Crowe presumes the icy road and unfamiliarity with the highway caused the crash and an inquest will likely be held. Fagg previously inspected Company A here Tuesday evening before heading to Grove City. He was a veteran National Guardsman and federal inspecting officer with the 112th Regiment. Word of his death stunned Company A officers.
