Revision of Farm Price Parity Formula in Congress Debate
The farm bloc seeks an upward revision of the parity formula for prices farmers receive, backed by unions and farm-state officials. Secretary of Agriculture Anderson favors a new postwar parity basis including farm labor costs, with a House bill by Rep Pace aiming to raise parity by about 90 percent. Past votes on price controls and labor costs shaped the debate, as the 1939 1945 parity figures show mixed progress.
