Smethwort Miner gharvey, Stew art of Mt Jewett, charged with desertion and non support of five children last October, was brought to Smethport jail after a long police hunt led by County Detective Mitton. Guard Captain Saves Erie Woman at Station
Erie January 8 Captain William D Wise of Company M 112th Infantry saved four women from a fast train at Union Station Saturday morning as an elderly crowd watched. One woman seemed to step onto the track but Wise leaped to her side and lifted her away just before the engine. The witnesses credited his prompt action with sparing the lives of the group gathered near the platform.
