Energy usage falls as colder weather eases demand
Americans reduced use of electricity, natural gas, and heating oil in December due to conservation and milder early winter weather. Utilities cite variables like weather and holidays as complicating factors, with notable declines in electricity in some regions. Delmarva Power and Light reported a six to seven percent drop after accounting for weather, while Edison Electric Institute noted a modest year on year rise for the week ending December 22, 1973, still below typical gains.
