The Presbyterian Church in the United States and the United Presbyterian Church for North America propose a merger of about three million members. They would exclude the Southern church whose presbyteries defeated a 1954 merger plan. If approved by the denominations and their presbyteries, the united body would be formed as the United Presbyterian Church in the United States by a May 1954 General Assembly agenda.

Duchess of Windsor Returns to Baltimore in Quiet Arrival
The Sumac girl who became the Duchess of Windsor returned to her home city of Baltimore that night as the former Miss Watlis Warfield of 225 East Middle Street. The former king accompanied her in a virtually unnoticed arrival, contrasting with their October 1941 visit when crowds jammed the station and ticker tape showers greeted them. The duke and duchess planned to attend the Assembly Ball and observe trends.
