Fire crews reported two separate incidents yesterday and this morning. Sparks from a welding job ignited oil drippings in an elevator shaft at Corry Jamestown Plant No 1, but workers stopped the fire before Stanford Hose Company arrived. No injuries and minimal damage. A second fire hit a fourth floor spray booth at Dahlstrom Metallic Door Co in Jamestown at 5 49 am. Sprinklers and alarms activated, damage confined to the original area with some water on the floor. John McCracken longtime Corry pharmacist and Rexall Drug Store owner died suddenly in Clearwater Florida at 9 15 this morning after a prior heart attack on January 1 He moved to Corry in 1989 from Bradford and later sold his Rexall outlet In 1949 he moved to Florida where he worked in a hospital pharmacy He is survived by his wife one son John Jr two grandsons and other relatives Burial plans in Clearwater were announced and the service time was not yet definite
Dr Maurice A Bigelow aged 82 professor emeritus at Columbia University and author of works on hygiene and sex education died yesterday. He examined the origins of the United States first electric lighting systems installed in 1881.
Erie Clar ence Sauerwine formerly of Wesleyville was released yesterday from Warren State Hospital by Judge Elmer L. Evans. Sauerwine, in and out of the hospital for alcoholism treatment, had been the subject of habeas corpus hearings challenging confinement as cruel and unusual punishment. Judge Laub previously rejected the claim. The release followed a favorable recommendation from Dr. Robert H. Israel, superintendent in Warren.
