Black Box Detectors Draw Snow of Skepticism from Truckers
A 79 system of vehicle detectors is criticized by truckers and dealers who say units are sophisticated versions of earlier models and only sometimes effective. They cost about 100 dollars, plug into cigarette lighters, and claim radar readings up to two miles away while terrain can reduce range. Law officials acknowledge warnings provide drivers time to slow from speeds near 80 mph, yet speeding tickets rise and some expect new radar tech to replace current units.
