Budget cuts may close new NASA center
NASA plans to shut down the Ultra-modern Electronics Research Center in Cambridge Massachusetts as part of budget cutbacks. The move targets a 36 million dollar complex nearing completion, with about 100 researchers already there and 7 more in temporary quarters. Officials say further NASA cuts and program reorientation follow the Space Task Group report, with possible auction of the Cambridge facilities if no other agency can use them. Massachusetts Governor Sargent and Senator Kennedy oppose the closing, while Paine and Scheer outline transfer of contracts and future reorganization. Carry School Prayer Case To Supreme Court
UNIONTOWN, Pa. AP A local citizens group spokesman says the Albert Gallatin School District will appeal a federal court ruling banning religious exercises in public schools to the Supreme Court. Attorney William E. Duffield says the court can reverse itself again and notes three equal branches under the Constitution. The district voted to appeal after Judge Louis Rosenberg halted practices citing the First Amendment. The appeal goes to the Third Circuit Court of Appeals in Philadelphia. Association members have raised funds to cover legal fees.
