Fight County Valuation Hire Sparks Legal Challenge
The General Electric Company complains the $2,000,000 assessment hike is not in accord with the 1943 rating statute. Attorney W. Pitt Gifford argues taxation should follow governing law while county officials cite board of revisions as the approving body. Treasury report shows December receipts and debts, with total debt over 259 billion dollars.

Columbus News Letter Sees Holiday Events In Town
The Columbus News Letter recounts December and early January community activities. Nine members and fathers met for a Christmas party at Janie Raymond’s home, with gifts and a lunch of gingerbread and cocoa. The girls choir performed The Choir of Bethlehem at a church event. Local families attending Christmas celebrations and travels are noted, along with church dinners, farewells for Rev Wakre, and various social visits. The Grange installation is planned for January, and the Ladies’ Aid sent seven baskets to needy families.
