A Northern Pacific liner went aground off Fire Island at two o clock this morning. Efforts to float the big vessel were unsuccessful. About 1700 wounded Americans are being transferred to a hospital ship and may need further evacuation.
Washington reports the Northern Pass near Mire Taland ran aground with 2100 soldiers aboard, 1700 wounded. Rescue tugs and destroyers responded as officials noted no fear of loss of life though the perilous voyage continues. The 18th mortar battery remains the only organized unit identified aboard.
Paris dispatches report Wilson’s London visit yielded no change in his peacetime agenda or in the League of Nations stance.
