Senate elections bill could lift campaign limits
The proposed bill would allow senatorial candidates and backers to spend from 100 000 up to 1 910 000 in campaigns. Sen Lyndon B Johnson says broad support from both parties is likely and that the measure will require public review and enforcement, with Knowland of California assisting in shaping the bill. The current 10 000 personal expenditure limit would be replaced by a 30 cent per vote cap, with a minimum of 100 000 and varying ceilings by state based on votes cast.
