Mieczko Retrial Delayed Again in Lydia Warner Case
Mayville Feb 27 The third trial of Leo Joseph Mieczko for the murder of Mrs Lydia Warner is postponed to at least the April term in Rochester due to hospitalisation of defense counsel William B Mahoney. District Attorney Edwin G O'Connor said the Johns Hopkins Hospital confinement will determine the length of the postponement. The April term may be the earliest date and a longer delay is possible. The judge to preside remains undetermined. The case stems from the 1946 Bowling Green murder in Silver Creek with a prior life sentence that was overturned by the Court of Appeals. The retrial began in 1949 and stalled again as jurors could not reach a verdict.
