Women in War Service Discussed in Washington Conference
Officials of women political and college organizations will discuss the contribution of women to the national emergency at a Washington Spring conference. Dr Esther B Strong says women will not be drafted and will serve voluntarily in nursing and communications. Assistant Secretary Anna Rosenberg stated the armed forces could use more women. The 1948 act gave equal status to women in uniform but capped numbers. WWII saw about 275000 women in service, over two percent of total.
