Firemen attempting to reach a man on a three story rooming house roof faced verbal abuse as the suspect toyed with pots, pans and bricks. The incident unfolded as responders worked to secure the man and gain safe access. Dispatchers reported ongoing efforts to deescalate and retrieve the individual without further harm.
A 45 year old Fredonia man, Paul V. Derby, was killed when eight 1,000 pound tile sections toppled into a trench during sanitary sewer work by Verdan Construction Co. at Dunkirk. He suffered a crushed chest and died after emergency life support was started. coroner Ralph Wallace said autopsy not needed. Wet, mucky conditions were blamed for the collapse. Derby was not fully buried.
Four CJ officials attend the annual National Office Furniture Association convention at the Park Sheraton in New York. The three day meeting ends tomorrow with a new display room to be opened for dealers and salesmen. The highlight is the selection of Outstanding Office Furniture Salesman 1960. Richard Fuller, Co vice president, is among eight judges. Armour Hillstrom, Charles A. Williams, and William R. Chesley are also at the convention.

A man named Gordon Johnson is hospitalized after a falling tree pinned him against a farm tractor at the Lyle Gabriel farm near Clymer. He crawled to the house for help and was later rushed to Corry Hospital for observation. Johnson had recently moved to the area and was working alone when the accident occurred.
A 9 year old boy from Cornelleyil'e Oliver Lehtinen, Payette county detective, says the death followed a head injury received while playing football with other youngsters during a noon recess at Bullikin Township school. He collapsed at home and died after being rushed to Connellsville State Hospital with a brain hemorrhage.

Corryite Charles Parkhurst of East Smith Street was struck by a 40 pound block while laying bricks at the bottom of a pit yesterday afternoon. He sustained injuries to his back but was helped from the pit by Floyd Hopkins and taken to hospital, where he remained overnight and was not discharged today.
