New School Program Presented to Board
A proposed plan would place grades 10 through 12 at the Wright Street building while expanding elementary facilities. A twelve room elementary building on West Congress Street would house Second and Third ward pupils, with future expansion possible. The idea favors keeping all elementary pupils in two buildings and high school pupils in one, possibly adding an auditorium and gym. The current Junior High would be repurposed as a cafeteria or classroom space, and transportation and site choices hinge on finances and location.

Building Proposal for Junior High and Elementary Schools
A plan proposes using the present Junior High for elementary pupils and constructing a new Junior Senior High School on Weight Street. The Home making and Hatch buildings would be razed, playground areas repurposed for elementary use, and three buildings would house all students. Old elementary buildings could be razed or sold. Directors Hammond, Monroe, Wallace, Wood, and Pelt with Supt Swarts, Business Manager Anderson and Solicitor Brown discussed the district’s building needs, exonerations on per capita tax, and Kiwanis Club use of Fourth Ward lot for a summer festival. Ronald Putnam was named baseball coach for the spring.
