Over 20 000 of the new tokens have been distributed to Corry store owners by the We Corry banks and more will be given out today and tomorrow before the new rationing begins at midnight Sunday February 27. On Monday Corry housewives will start using the tokens as change for ration stamps. Tokens are red and blue. red tokens cover red stamps and blue tokens cover blue stamps. Green stamps in Ration Book 3 issued February 1 expire March 30. Blue stamps 8 A 8 B 8 C 3 D F and red stamps 8 A 5 8 C in Ration Book 4 become valid with tokens on February 27. An stamps have a value of 10 points each. Tokens will be given to purchasers buying products with point values below AW and can be used indefinitely alongside stamps. Checks are issued on the first of each month at 100 per month until full. Veterans’ discharge papers are recorded to prevent duplication. Dr. Merle Amy of the Veterans of Foreign Wars assists Corry servicemen. more applications are coming from Spartansburg and outlying areas. TREASURY REPORT Washington Feb 25 position of treasury. Erie February 25 George H Stein, 24, of Lawrence Park, suffered a broken neck in a vehicle collision at 20th and Wayne streets. He is hospitalized at St Vincent's in critical condition. Police say Stein was traveling north on Wayne when his car collided with another driven by 46 year old Jamey Kane of Pine Avenue Whe, who was east on Ath Street.
Two bandits robbed two state policemen of their guns near Huntingdon Pennsylvania trapping them in a rooming house then fled west on Route 29 in a California license sedan. Major Charles G Keller directed the manhunt as Privates Ray Blyler and Ray Bailey were robbed after stopping vehicles for operator licenses. the bandits, described as transients aged about 38 and 45, remain at large with no trace found.
German forces admit new advances near Moscow as Soviet counterstrokes push through multiple centers. Rogochov is reported captured in the Pripet Marsh operation, signaling a strategic shift amid ongoing fighting.
Assorted Press reports Berlin says German forces retreated from Vitebsk toward the Polish border after Soviet claims that Rogachev fell and a wide advance along a 50 mile front near Pskov occurred. Moscow claimed Gen Rakossovsky’s forces captured Rogachev and advanced toward other towns, with heavy enemy losses.
Revenue chief Deputy Gallagher acted after a deputy failed to keep Corry hours for income tax returns. He conferred with the postmaster and ordered deputies to adjust. Deputy Stine opened the Corry office early and will maintain hours 9 to 12, 4 to 5, and 8 in the evening with Saturday service, plus extra coverage Monday and Tuesday to relieve Monday’s disruption.
