Submarine Attacks Raise Toll On US Oil Tankers
Twenty four American owned tankers have been torpedoed off the U S coast since January as enemy submarines strike Atlantic shipping lines. The Cities Service Empire and the Republic were hit with loss of 16 sailors dead or missing and 57 rescued. Captain William Jerman of the Cities Service Empire is among the dead. Captain Albert Anderson of the Republic was rescued.
