Twenty candidates filed nominating petitions in Hartisburg closing yesterday. W W Waterhouse seeks Republican State Senate seat, facing Erie attorney John Held after Willker B Sennett of Erie withdrew. Corry sends William A Peiffer and J Pred Kinley for General Assembly. Ronnie Allgayer, 4, was found nude and near death after two hours in a refrigerator. He told his mother he and a playmate used it for a bath, then the door was slammed. He was revived at City-County Hospital with no apparent lasting injuries. In Japan, former world table tennis champion Toshiaki Tanaka regained consciousness after a suicide attempt and is expected to survive after poisoning.
Erie County may pursue extradition proceedings to bring Bemis back from Texas after he failed to appear for the February criminal court term. Bemis faces at least five counts of fraud, forgery, and false conversion, and was reportedly jailed in Brownsville, Texas on a car theft charge after being picked up in Tennessee. Assistant DA Wayne Gleeten said extradition through the Texas city is possible but requires DA Herbert Johnson Jr. approval after consultation.
Harrisburg AP reports a dull state primary despite Nixon entering the race as the lone presidential candidate. Major contests focus on statewide posts with limited opposition, including state treasurer and auditor general. Special elections fill vacancies in 17th and 18th districts as nominees contend for party support.

Los Angeles AP report on final arguments in the Finch murder case. Prosecutor Clifford Crail accused Carole Tregoff and Dr. R Bernard Finel of fabricating a cover story to avoid conviction for killing Barbara Jenn Finch and wounding Marie Anne Lidholm. The defense contends the gun fired accidentally during a struggle outside the Finch estate near West Covina.
Dutch ship radio operator Wil lem van Rie faces cross examination as he prepares to testify in the murder case arising from the disappearance of Lynn Kaufman, a 23 year old scholar in the passenger parlor aboard the freighter Utrecht near Boston. Prosecution alleges a torrid affair with Kaufman ended with her being killed overboard. An Indonesian crew member, Gadong, testified he heard knocks on Kaufman’s cabin door as the Utrecht steered away from port.
Reverend Rex Humbard demands a public apology from Allegheny College for a student demonstration that interrupted his 30 minute Meadville service. Police say reports may be exaggerated while college president Pelletier says the rally was not college sponsored and that students supported Humbard’s right to be heard.
North Carolina investigators say a dynamite bomb caused a plane crash near Bolivia North Dakota. Julian Frank an 82 year old Westport Connecticut attorney carried a million dollar life policy. FBI and CAB continue inquiry amid hints of conspiracy and questions about charges. James Durfee says it is definite. Frank insured by wife and mother to two children. Also a salute to WWII aviator James Buck who died at 74 in Salt Lake City.
Public schools cancel midwinter break after two snow days. Schools superintendent Dr William Rodemeyer announced the next two days will be used as make up days, with classes resuming after the period initially slated as a holiday.
Sandra Reynolds 17 year old mother of three was charged with murder in a knife slaying. Police said she admitted stabbing 20 year old Louella D Mc Clain in the thigh with a kitchen knife last night in the Indiana District area.
Tiare Capwell of Superior Cleaning Co has bought the East Washington street property housing Steen Dry Cleaners from Dr. N. Troy Gillette. Deal near completion. final terms awaiting release in a week. Mrs. Laura Steen will run until May 1 before relocating or retiring. Capwell plans razing the adjoining frame building for parking and a future staffed laundry replacement.
