Wave of strikes sweeps the nation with sit downs
A nationwide wave of sit down strikes blocks major plants. At Electric Boat in Groton 82 workers are ejected and arrested after a one day shutdown that idled about 1,000. In Santa Monica, Douglas Aircraft plants close, costing 6,000 jobs as bombers and other orders halt. ILA and union leadership clash with employers over worker representation.
