Free Suspect Held In Series Erie Holdups
Erie police questioned a suspect Thursday in connection with recent robberies staged by auto bandits. Detectives visited the suspect’s house on a tip and found a gun later claimed to be given by an out of town friend. The man denied involvement, and authorities could not connect him to the holdups, while efforts to capture the gang continued amid uncertain victim identifications. Earlier crimes include a Feb 3 car hijack of George W. Bender, who lost a $500 diamond ring, and a separate Feb 24 attempted abduction of Dr Thomas P. Mellor at 1th and State streets where the robber was thwarted.
