Porter this afternoon on charges of Tarceny in connection with an alleged theft from Frank Sawyer in West End Wednesday evening. Modified Naval Program May Get Approval
Washington February 2 Prospects of Congress authorizing the moderate naval program drafted by the House Naval Affairs Committee approved it. The program would provide 15 cruisers and one aircraft carrier at a cost of 274 million dollars, discarding President Coolidge's proposal for 71 ships at about 80 million dollars. Madden, leader of the small Navy group in the House, said it is just what Ty would have selected. An authorization bill for the 16 ship program will be introduced Monday by Chairman Butler. It carries no money for ships. another bill with the appropriation will follow unless the naval committee includes it in the Navy Department appropriation bill now under consideration.
