Philadelphia February 24 The federal war tax imposed October 22 1914 was decisively upheld by Justice Dickinson in an opinion refusing to modify the order in the case brought by the Real Estate Title and Insurance Trust Company seeking recovery of taxes paid under the wartime levy.
In the Verdun region French troops were forced to withdraw this morning evacuating Brabant ferr Minie, about 14 Jues from Verdun, after heavy action with the Crown Prince army. The French also lost part of the Core woods east of Brabant while German attacks at other points were repelled. German forces then moved toward Samosnave two miles beyond the new front, six miles from Vantin.
A British merchant ship named Weethurh Whiott was captured by German prize crew near Santa Cruz. The prize sailed for open sea where it was scuttled. German captors escaped in small boats. The action is linked to the Moono raiding group as part of a commerce raid.
