Erie Feb 23 Sheldon J Wolfe 82 former Mendrille tax consultant awaited transfer to a federal prison to begin a four year term for fraudulently preparing income tax returns He was convicted on 32 counts for false returns causing the US treasury to lose about 150000 Judge W Stewart sentenced him. President Truman returned to Washington from a weekend cruise but remained aboard the yacht to work and rest unsure how long onboard.
A Louisville Telephone Co employee Benson fell from a pole near Heat Lake Cemetery while ascending to work. The pole snapped sending him to Cory Memorial Hospital with a fractured right hip, head injuries, and facial cuts. His condition improved to good the next day.
Pennsy changes freight runs to start daylight service between Warren and Kane. The Erie to Kane nightly train, leaving at 10 p.m., will be replaced by two daytime runs from Erie to Warren and from Warren to Kane. Local freight service will then serve Warren and Kane, improving yard connections and on time arrivals.
In Seoul February 93 a jet battle over North Korea cost a MiG-15 to the Reds and made Maj. William Ty Whisner from Shreveport Louisiana a new jet ace with five and a half kills. He shot down a swept wing fighter before enemy jets engaged and another MiG was damaged as Maj. Donald Adams of Mount Clemens Michigan was hit but survived.
In Erie county judge Bowts voided a sheriff sale of a property tied to Home National Bank of Union City and the estate of the late A J Alkens. The ruling blocks the sale until due notification and proper notices are ensured, with the bank seeking to re list the property while Alkens pursues alternative disposition. The property includes a garage building and dwelling valued around thirty thousand dollars, and a prior mortgage of ten thousand dollars.
In Montreal on February 23 a three year old girl named Barbary Nemeroff was found safe after being kidnapped from her home overnight. Police arrested a man in his early 20s seen with the child on St. Catherine Street near Eaton's. A tip from a woman led officers to the suspect, who was believed to have worked for the child's father, Moris Nemeroff, a leather goods maker.

A heavily armed mental hospital escapee barricaded himself in his former home in Lexington Kentucky for two tense hours before police, aided by a smiling detective, lured him to a window and seized him. Milward B Trammel, 95, fled from the Eastern State Hospital in north Lexington.
In Korea near Pusan on February 22 a Thunderjet crashed into a power plant and hospital, killing 15 and injuring 20. The jet struck a hospital and four houses, causing total destruction. Court to sentence them next Wednesday. Root pleaded guilty. other depositors await trial. Holis Wagner turns 78 tomorrow in retirement.

Corry soldier Cpl. Conta Turber of 1101 West Pleasant Street and Me George Zimmerman from State Police here were held for further questioning after being picked up last night at the request of Air Force authorities from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base Dayton. They were listed as absent without leave from the Dayton field and held to determine ownership of a car in their possession. Police said the vehicle apparently belonged to another serviceman at the Dayton base, but confirmable ownership could not be learned immediately.
