Mendville reports C Stanley Smith son of Mr and Mrs F C Smith of this city has won a fellowship at Auburn Seminary alongside another Senior Class member. If the war in Europe ends next year he may study at any university there with expenses paid. if not, he can choose any U S university with full support. Smith, a Meadville High School graduate in 1908, attended Allegheny College and is in his third year at Auburn Seminary preparing for the ministry. He is a well known Corry alumnus venturing into further religious studies.

Venango County Temperance Campaign Organized in Franklin
In Franklin on February 28, about fifty temperance workers from Venango County gathered at the YMCA building to plan a dry campaign. W. G. Maple of Franklin was named temporary chairman, a permanent organization was formed, with T. Poster of Franklin as president, H. G. Tush of Otley as vice president, and C. J. Crawford of Franklin as secretary and treasurer. Evangelist OC G. Jordan and others gave inspiring talks.

Washington February 22 The Bristow led inquiry into alleged million dollar spending to elect Senator Penrose and into other states elections advances as Bristow joins Reed and Shaforth in support. He seeks amendment to name California Indiana Alabama Nevada Pennsylvania Illinois and other states for the inquiry to proceed under Senate authority. A subcommittee may begin after March 4 with Palmer promising to summon Pennsylvania figures to show political chicanery behind Penrose’s election.

In Olean on February 22, thieves broke into the Mayer Brothers Laughter House and carried off hides valued over 50 dollars. Vernon Adams and Joseph Sullivan were arrested after a wild chase. authorities say they used a livery rig and carried a dagger. They later confessed to hiding the remaining hides in a barn on Hast Street.
