Trial resumes in Erie cop bribery case with fireworks expected
Fireworks were expected today as the county court prepares to resume the bribery trial of Liborio Arnone Frank Scalise and Mike Lockett. Defense teams may press for more data on Patrolman Russell Verga s witness statements alleging a long standing pattern of bribe taking by vice squad members dating back to 1951. The defense may argue Verga instigated the bribes using his badge as leverage while Mayor Gardner and Police Administrator Purvis review the allegations for truth.
