Transit Strike Ends in Philadelphia After 10 Days
The city’s 10 day transit strike ended as bus and trolley service resumed under CIO pressure for an eight cent raise plus sick leave payments. Wages rose to 1.14 dollars an hour from 1.06, costing the company about 350000 and prompting fare increases to avoid bankruptcy. Thousands walked or rode with private transport during the stoppage.
