County keeps seven mills tax rate as budget advances

Erie County commissioners approved a small appropriation for morgue improvements and rejected boroughs requests for a share of the gasoline tax. They plan final budget approval next Tuesday and will keep the seven mill tax rate. Attorney Jacob Held advised that distributing gas tax requires equal shares to townships and cities. Last year boroughs received 423,500. Only surplus gas tax funds beyond county needs may be distributed. The rest of the budget mirrors the controller’s initial submission.
