Midwest Storm Strikes From Dakotas to New Jersey
A powerful winter storm battered the Midwest over the weekend, then shifted into the Northeast. Up to two feet of snow blanketed parts of South Dakota and western Minnesota, with ice and sleet causing travel chaos from North Dakota to Pennsylvania. Thousands were stranded, schools paused, and many roads and airports were blocked as temperatures plunged and freezing rain glazed parts of Illinois Indiana Michigan and Ohio. State crews and volunteers helped rescue stranded ice fishermen on Lake Poygan as bitter cold settled in.
