Babson Park Florida February writes on future science and aviation advances. He envisions experiments with individual flying using light gas suits and new alloys to overcome gravity. If realized, these ideas could lift commercial planes and aid those with heart trouble.
Official ballots were mailed to all chamber members for the election of nine new directors. Ballots must be returned to the chamber office within a week and will be counted at the annual meeting on March 2 at Hotel Corry at 6 pm. Nominees named: Edward Borstorff, RG Tunnel, Howard McMulten, Kenneth Benson, E F Bettes, Phillip Zalzneck, Robert Obl, Lawrence Thorn. Four directors to fill vacancies left by four term-ends. No further nominations were made by February 15.
Dr. Hermann N. Sander, 41, charged with murder in the mercy slaying of cancer patient Abbie Borrito, waited in seclusion in Candia as opening arguments approached. A Harvard medical expert was listed as a principal defense witness.
Police seek thief after $320 in cash and coins vanished from the Hotel Corry safe during daytime hours. Washington date February 18 CIO telephone workers say they will strike next Friday unless a new 15 cent per hour wage proposal from the company prompts negotiations to begin. Company officials reviewed the proposal and questioned its justification. Josaph E. Beirne, president of the Communications Workers of America, said orders to present the contract demand have been sent to all 25 bargaining divisions. The next move rests with the company.
The British steamer Caduceus, 400 feet, 455 gross tons, owned by Hall Bros. Steamship, is held off Formosa's Takao, with no official detention reason released. Authorities say the case involves Nationalist navy figures and possible past trade with Chinese Communist parts. contacts for Adm. Kwei Yunie-Ching were unavailable.
