Railroads Face Off With Unregulated Trucks Say Expert
Hiiha Ley vice president of the Pennsylvania Railroad told the Pittsburgh Chamber of Commerce that motor freight traffic should be regulated but trucks will not supplant railroads. He warned a convoy of trucks could monopolize the Pennsylvanian highway from Pittsburgh to Philadelphia if the William Penn route were assigned solely to truck traffic. He noted railroads still essential when passenger service is counted, and that railroads face stricter regulation than trucks which may pick or reject traffic at will.
