President Taft urges Americans to donate to the Red Cross to aid famine victims in China. He asks citizens to send funds to the Red Cross treasurer in Washington or arrange flour and other supplies for shipment, with army transport aid coordinated by the Red Cross.

Two masked burglars broke into a Willow Burre house near Warrior Run Pennsylvania. They damaged a door and robbed a cellar or room previously used to confine a prisoner. Police notified. the loss was reported as 28 dollars.

He received three years penal servitude after a trial in which W E Vanderbilt could not be brought to testify. International witnesses from Marlborough and Paris were absent.
Washington reports suggest John Hays Toman has not received the ambassadorship to Hagland for King Geode V’s coronation. The United States government has not decided if he would be accredited. Mr Hammond visited the White House and walked with President Taft. his name is said to be submitted to Grant Hrtinin awaiting Tongland’s decision.
New York February 16 A defense driven hint points to testimony from City Chamberlain Hyde if needed as jurors are completed in the trial of former Senator Frank P Gardner on bribery charges. The defense seeks to question witnesses about alleged money exchanges while the state weighs calling Als aide Mr Ayde or City Chamberlain Willie for defense testimony.
Washington reports say Jewish organizations press for action after Russia bars American born Jews. White House gave no comment but a quartern official says the US govt may not intervene. Josiah representatives urged the president and state department to renegotiate the existing treaty with Russia.
San Francisco report states Joaquin Miller aged 70 known as the Poet of Sierras lies critically ill at Fahrola hospital Oakland after a winter of poor health and a recent decline. He reportedly attempted to walk from his home to Oakland with the aid of a private physician in attendance.
Washington February 1 The Senate denied the White Mountain and Indian forest reserve bill but the House passed the conservation measure to protect water basins and navigable streams. The bill creates a national forest investigation commission and authorizes up to 2 million annually for land surveys and purchases to safeguard watersheds and fire protection.
Harriburg Pa Feb 16 The Tri State League held a stormy session over the schedule. Officials approved 113 games with a May 8 season opener and December 6 closing. Rimes added to be played as double headers on Saturdays at Benson.
February 18 report from Honson states Captain Andrew Englund, a well known goa captain on the New Atusland coast, died after a hatpin jab. The incident marks a rare fatality linked to the weapon's recent winter surge in use.
In Philadelphia February, Judge McPherson of the United States district court dismissed the Krupp action against Midvale Steel Co. over alleged infringement of a patent process. The court found the infringement claim was not supported by sufficient evidence and noted the process had been used by Midvale prior to filing.
Governor Dix commuted the death sentence of Rogeo Chiaro to life imprisonment at Auburn prison. Chiaro, who had been scheduled for execution in the week of Feb 20, killed Foreman Marah and shot Kern after a quarrel at the Warner Quining company in Syracuse on Jan 30, 1910. The governor noted the intent to kill Kern was a close question.
Johnny Pepper, 72, was refused a marriage license in Gloucester City New Jersey. He plans to seek a license in another state while his Camden based intended, Anna Lippincott, remains unmarried. City officials say no license will be issued here and Pepper faces financial and legal obstacles before any remarriage.
Philadelphia reports the death of Mrs Spencer Ogden host of a Foreign Missionary society event after a fall at Dr W Morehon’s home. Born June 19 1836 in Perrinaville she had spent years in Africa mission work and died after a head injury on the hardwood floor. London reports Prime Minister Asquith denying government involvement in a Canadian motor accord.
