The panel discusses President Johnson and Kenneth O'Donnell as Manchester defends his biography. He recalls author revisions requested by Kennedy representatives and his refusal to alter President Johnson’s first Cabinet meeting.

Manchester manuscript revisions cited in Kennedy dispute

Former aide Manchester described two waves of edits to his manuscript influenced by Kennedy associates. He claimed political considerations guided revisions and that a memorandum requiring approval by Jacqueline Kennedy and Robert Kennedy was effectively dissolved. Eisenhower commented that similar actions after Lincoln’s assassination would have been welcome. The author argues the editing did not harm the work’s integrity.
