Fees Attack Insurance Practice Who Should Pay For Abortions
Pennsylvania anti abortion groups press to modify health insurance to require women seeking abortions to pay extra premiums. Blue Cross Blue Shield maintain coverage based on family plans without deeming abortion necessary for health. Critics argue standard rates unfairly burden those opposed to abortion and raise ethical questions about subsidizing others. McGuire of the Pennsylvania for Human Life says the Supreme Court ruling will boost abortion figures, while insurers note state rules may limit future bans. Representatives from 17 groups met to plan actions beyond the insurance issue.
