Warning Against Bogus Highway Department Checks

Highway Secretary Warren Van Dyke warned merchants and banks about a racket using counterfeit payroll checks drawn on the Pennsylvania Highway Department. Seven checks totaling 215 dollars were received by Harrisburg National Bank from western banks, with police reporting at least 50 bogus checks in circulation. The forgeries carry the printed pay line Pennsylvania Highway Department Payroll and list Arthur Parks as payee with signing by Charles Henderson, all marked payable at Harrisburg National Bank. State police have photostatic copies for investigation, and the department will not incur losses from these checks.
