Farm Showplace Would Cost Pa. 103 Million
Harrisburg AP Agriculture Secretary Jim McHale outlines a $103 million replacement for the aging Farm Show complex to become a state showplace. He urges rapid approval, noting studies project revenue to the state and a stop to exhibitors moving to newer East facilities. McHale says plans could target a Harrisburg land parcel or Hershey site, with contracts possibly awarded within months to finish by Pennsylvania bicentennial 1976. The current 14-acre complex, built in the 1930s for about $2.7 million, is deemed costly to maintain. former Farm Show Director Horace Mann was ousted last month amid controversy, replaced by Wellington Smith.

Administration to curb Saturday Night Specials aims at cheap handguns
Washington AP reports the Nixon administration plans a proposal within two weeks to close a loophole in the 1968 Gun Control Act by targeting cheap pistols known as Saturday Night Specials. Officials say the bill would prevent crime while defending gun owners rights, addressing imports and mail order sales of small caliber handguns priced as low as ten to forty dollars.
