YMCA campaign leaders reported 210103 cash and pledges received as of 8 am, with 4325.80 added since yesterday. The drive, aiming for 239000, planned a Victory Dinner at Cory Area High School on February 16th at 6 pm, following a breakfast at Hotel Corry attended by 92 volunteers.
A staff breakdown shows Teams Division 728 pledges for 328,579, Shop Division 1,721 pledges for 3,128, Special Gifts 120 pledges for 125,094, total 5,569 pledges for 220,802 with duplicates. Major gifts include 915,000 from Raymond Mig Go for Special Girls, and a 1,000 Boston Store Erie donation. Volunteers asked to finish pledges by 5 pm Monday, then totals will be tallied for a victory dinner with plans including underwriting by four locals and surprises in the program.
A reward was offered for information leading to the identification, arrest, and conviction of the operator of a motor vehicle that struck and killed a 10 year old boy near Warren on Saturday. State Police are confidential with informants. Officers have several leads on the identity of the car that struck Kenneth Thomas on Route 6 near Stonehall. The vehicle is believed to be a 1960 Plymouth. Also noted, ex congressman Odes Pittsburg, Twing Brooks, 72, former member of the Braty Digitar Control Board and a former Congress member, died at his home. He previously managed the Allegheny County Airport.
In Allegheny County, the Common Pleas Court ruled school boards cannot use public school buses to transport parochial school pupils. The decision followed a challenge by the Taxpayers' League of Robinson Township over township buses carrying Catholic students.

A landslide from a hillside struck a Baltimore and Ohio passenger train at about 45 miles an hour near West Newton Pa derailing several cars. A North Dakota man, Donald Wyclskula of Bismarck, admitted to FBI agents a fatal hatchet attack on James Ankew and his wife in Seattle. Harrisburg optimistic House leaders set Thursday for final vote on a 360 million dollar bipartisan tax package combining a 2 percent personal net income tax with a 2 percent selective sales levy on luxuries and certain goods. Leaders claim enough votes exist though senators remain mostly noncommittal. the plan would credit residents for taxes paid to other states and is retroactive to January.
Secretary of State Dulles said the United States would respect protests from countries objecting to American weather balloons but affirmed the right to deploy such balloons worldwide. He warned the response to Soviet protests would come soon, noting that meteorological balloons may breach some international norms yet may be necessary for national security.
