Ships At Sea Endangered By Bad Storm
A slow moving storm battered the Atlantic from the Gulf of Mexico to the Carolinas. Twenty foot waves and strong winds endangered several ships and hampered rescue efforts by Coast Guard craft. The storm sank a trawler off Florida, drowning three men while six others were rescued. A Jacksonville crew shored up seawalls with sandbags as crews faced widespread damage from flooding and erosion along the coast.
