Warm weather not fooling Wattsburg maple producers

Weather fail to trigger tapping as Mrs. Harry Burrows notes no trees tapped yet in Wattsburg area and unlikely to begin until late February or March. She recalls a winter windstorm that scattered sap buckets and teaches patience for true sugaring weather. Missionaries Evacuated From Congo Amid Tensions

API Thirteen American missionary women and children were evacuated from the Presbyterian mission at Bibanga in south Kasai as new military tensions rose. A U N rescue plane was seized by tribal gendarmes loyal to a native chief, while authorities debated control over south Kasai. The mission families fled in their own plane last week as river floods and blocked roads hindered movement.

Land Tax Course Starts Tomorrow

Corry residents will attend the first session of a land value taxation course tomorrow in the Municipal Building auditorium. Wylie Young of the Graded Tax League will lead the talks on the iris and cuts of the system. Invitations were sent to 41 civic and business groups. the only cost is $1.50 for a textbook.

Young Chester boys rescue brothers from icy Ridley Creek

In Chester Pennsylvania, 14 year old John Truitt and 12 year old Charles Kelly rescued six year old Thom as Millowicki and his four year old brother John after they fell through four feet of water in Ridley Creek yesterday. The youths were hailed as heroes for their brave actions.

Plan Huge New Gypsum Cement Plant Near Bellefonte

BELLEFONTE Pa AP The National Gypsum Co plans a 5 million ton Portland cement plant near Bellefonte Centre County announced by Melvin H Baker company chairman in Buffalo NY The plant would sit beside Gypsum lime plant west of Bellefonte with no official employment estimates given Baker predicts accelerated growth for Bellefonte and the surrounding area due to the Keystone Shortway and expansion of the Pennsylvania State University.

Corry and Warren Guardsmen Hold Field Training

More than 100 men of the First Battle Group Pennsylvania National Guard practiced platoon tactics in wooded terrain near Corry Jamestown Plant 3. Under Capt Archibald Woodin they trained from 8 a m to 4 p m with supervision by 1st Lt James Narducci and 1st Lt Frank Gentile. Recruitment is open with six months active duty training at an army post before returning to serve out the hitch locally.

U S Scientists Die in Peru Plane Crash

Weather forecaster warns winter gear still needed
