Speaker Wilson C Larng announced members Herman P Eberharter Joseph Ominsky Leo A Achterman Eugene A Caputo William E Zinnerman and Herman J Tah Philadelphia. The panel will plan its program to carry out Governor George W Earle's thorough inquiry into the liquor board's activities over 14 months, amid charges of secret contacts with distillers and lack of competitive buying raising prices.
Gov George H Earle drafted amendments to state workmen's compensation laws for introduction in a Democratic controlled House delays due to advice from Attorney General Charles J Margioli. The House advanced ten bills from first to second reading including three labor measures. A seven member committee was to oversee a plan to investigate the state liquor store system at the governor's request.

Chimney fires kept the city fire department busy for over a half hour last night with two alarms issued within minutes. The first fire was at Mrs M J Berry on West Pleasant Street where only minor damage occurred. A second alarm from box 24 sent units to George Beecher’s home on Haapt Conygress Street where a chimney fire was contained with no serious damage.

Reporters noted the jury appeared to study quietly with no audible sound from the courtroom.
Harrisburg Pa Feb 1953 legislators consider new liquor bills. Rep Samuel A Weiss backs a measure to require clubs to pay the same annual license fees as hotels and restaurants, 150 to 500 dollars by municipality size. The bill would allow on premises consumption for off premise sales and restrict Sunday hours. Rep Edgar A Schtope also seeks hospital liquor purchases via state stores.
Aflugtien on a charge of allowing the operation of a slot machine at his establishment. J C Phelps, operator of a business on South Center street, appeared before Mayor Glen Miller after police seized a machine earlier in the afternoon. He faced a hearing Monday night with a $26 fine noted. Burlingame said this was the only device seized as slot machines had been banned under Mayor Miller’s edict.
