Gas Bill Debate Ends In Senate Vote
The Senate moves toward a final vote on a bill to exempt natural gas producers from direct federal regulation after weeks of unlimited debate. Governors of 12 states urged rejection, arguing the exemption would raise consumer gas bills and nullify state rate regulation. Senators Wiley and others warn the House balance favors opponents, with Pennsylvania’s Duff and Mittin split on the measure.

Tool Against Senator Freed Tuftimes 160M Bune
A man linked to the McCarthy era investigations faces two counts for allegedly lying to a federal grand jury about conversations with Brig. Gen. Telford Taylor and discussions with Joseph L. Rauh and others. He admitted fabricating material about alleged illegal activities to the senate panel but said others knew the tainted nature of the evidence. The case ties to ex-Communist H. Matusow and coverage by the Washington Post and Times Herald amid televised testimony. Retired executives of U.S. Steel in Canada are noted in a separate item.
